The Solent
The Solent is 'the' place in the UK to go yachting, given the huge opportunity for both cruising and highly competitive yacht racing. Whether you want to get stuck right in on a sailing yacht or relax and watch everyone else do the hard work sipping a drink on a motor yacht, the choice is yours. There are many pretty anchorages and marinas, relatively close together, Lymington and Cowes for the yachting bustle or the peaceful Beaulieu River and Newtown Creek. The famous Cowes Week in August is the most exciting yacht racing, closely followed by the Round The Island Race where over 1000 yachts have been known to take part.

The West Country
This piece of coast is very beautiful, very English and full of wooded inlets with pubs, restaurants and charming villages. From Dartmouth, home of the Royal Naval College, in Devon down to the Helford River in deepest Cornwall, there are several 'chocolate box' ports in sheltered green valleys. The opportunity to relax and enjoy the scenery or jump in to full sailing racing is always there. There are sailing regattas in Dartmouth, Salcombe and Falmouth to name a few. For those with an adventurous spirit, the Channel Islands are only an overnight cruise away.
